The simple volume is oriented to take in sweeping views of the city and beyond.
The three-story volume rises on a steep site in Austin’s Old Enfield neighborhood. A steel and ipe screen dominates the façade and breaks up the house’s mass. Black limestone forms the base, which rises to partial and the full transparency at the top. The ground floor level houses and office and garage, the second floor bedroom and dining room. The kitchen and master suite on the top floor take advantage of 180-degree views. The site’s shifting clay soil required long piers to be driven dozens of feet into the ground to ensure the structure’s stability.
